Create & customize agents

Watch the whole build first, then fly it yourself. By the end you will have a custom agent with its own instructions, model, tools, and welcome — built once, reused every day.

Create your first agent, start to finish

Build your first agent

  1. Create the agent

Click + at the top of the sidebar. The create menu offers a new agent, a new group chat, or a new folder — choose New agent. Starting from a template is the fast path: pick one close to your use case and edit from there instead of from blank.

  2. Shape the persona

The persona editor opens. Give the agent a name, a description, an avatar (emoji or upload), and tags so it is easy to find. Then write the system prompt in the prompt canvas: what the agent is, how it behaves, what it must never do. The token count under the prompt keeps long instructions honest, and everything autosaves as you type.

  3. Tune the advanced settings

Open Advanced settings for the deeper tabs: Documents attaches reference material the agent always has; Opening sets its first-contact behavior; Chat behavior controls topic auto-creation and history retention; Model parameters picks the model and tunes temperature, max tokens, and reasoning effort. Change what you need, skip the rest — the defaults are sensible.

  4. Design the first impression

Set a welcome message and opening questions. New users of your agent see the welcome in the empty conversation and can click an opening question to start well. If the agent uses tools that need authorization, users see that alert here too — set expectations in the welcome text.

  5. Co-build with the Agent Builder

Not sure what to write? Open the Agent Builder side chat on the profile page and describe what you want in plain words. It drafts the prompt, suggests settings, and applies changes as you refine — co-building instead of staring at a blank prompt.

  6. Duplicate for variants

Use Duplicate on the profile to copy the agent, then vary the copy: a stricter reviewer, a different model, a new domain. Duplicates are the cheap way to experiment without breaking the agent that already works.
