Wingman Home: your command center
Wingman Home is the desktop command center: pick a mode, pick a workspace, check your account, and connect your AI tools — all on one screen.
Watch: a tour of Wingman Home
Switch modes from Home
The Wingman Home button is the rounded button at the top center of the window, labeled Wingman Home. It is there in every mode. Click it any time to return to the Home screen, where you switch between Chat, Agent Dev, and — when enabled — Zendesk. It is the main way to move between modes — and it is easy to miss at first.
What is on the Home screen
- Startup modes: Chat and Agent Dev as selectable cards — plus Zendesk when the
wingman.zendesk.enabledsetting is on. Pick one and the launch button underneath updates to name the exact next action. - Workspace card: The current workspace with a status chip and bootstrap stats — how many Wingman setup files are missing, outdated, or protected.
- Recent workspaces: One-click cards for workspaces you have opened before. The list appears once you are signed in.
- Account summary: Who is signed in and for which organization, with sign-out. The one-click Connect AI tools button lives here too.
- Local AI tools: Install status for each supported CLI, with a ready-to-copy install command for anything missing and a re-check action.
What the launch button does
| Launch button | When you see it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Open Chat | Chat mode is selected. | Opens the hosted chat inside the app. |
| Resume Agent Dev | Agent Dev mode with a ready workspace. | Opens the workspace exactly where you left it. |
| Set up and open Agent Dev | The chosen workspace has never been prepared for Wingman. | Writes the missing setup files, then opens Agent Dev. |
| Update and open Agent Dev | The workspace setup files are from an older Wingman version. | Refreshes them to the current version, then opens Agent Dev. |
| Open Folder | Agent Dev mode with no workspace chosen yet. | Opens the folder picker so you can choose one. |
| Open Zendesk | Zendesk mode is selected (requires the wingman.zendesk.enabled setting). | Opens the support triage workspace. |
Workspace setup state
The workspace card is Agent Dev pre-flight. A Setup required chip means the workspace has never been prepared; Update available means its setup files are outdated. The stats underneath count exactly what the launch button will fix — missing files, outdated files, and protected files. Protected files are ones you have customized: Wingman counts them but leaves them alone rather than overwrite your changes.
Connect your AI tools

Check the Local AI tools list
Home lists each supported CLI — Claude Code, Codex, and friends — with its install status. A missing tool shows a ready-to-copy install command; run it in a terminal, then click Re-check and the status updates in place.
Click Connect AI tools
On the account card, one click registers the hosted Wingman MCP endpoint with every installed CLI. No config files to edit, nothing to paste.
Approve the browser sign-in
The first Wingman tool call from a CLI opens a one-time browser approval. Approve it and the connection stays linked to your session — signing out of Wingman disconnects it.
